Dear Friends,
I am training for the 2014 Ironman Lake Tahoe and to make my
race more meaningful, I’ve decided to Tri
for a Child. By Tri-ing for a Child,
I will support the programs of Tu Nidito Children and Family Services, a
special agency that supports children as they deal with serious illness and
grief. Each year, Tu Nidito supports
over 800 children and their families through programs for children who have
experienced the death of someone they love, children who have been diagnosed
with a serious illness, or children whose parents have been diagnosed with a
serious illness.
Tu Nidito’s services are free for the families who need
them. The support of the community is critical to sustaining the important,
unduplicated services Tu Nidito provides for children, and I am proud to
support their work by tri-ing for a child.
As a Tri for a Child
athlete, I have been paired with a special Tu Nidito child who I will race in
honor of.
Lilliana
Four year old Lilliana is a very outgoing and
energetic little girl. She loves making new friends and talks a lot! Her
favorite toys are cars and Legos. She likes to ride her bike and do art
activities. Her favorite colors are pink and purple.
Very recently, Lilliana’s dad died unexpectedly
from a motorcycle accident and she began attending a support group at Tu
Nidito. Mom says the group has allowed Lilliana to express her feelings and
emotions and find comfort in other young children experiencing the same thing.
She has learned tools to help her communicate about her dad and her feelings.
Through both free time and directed activities, Tu Nidito allows children to
process their grief in a healthy way and at their own natural pace.
Tu Nidito’s grief support programs provide a
safe, comfortable environment for children like Lilliana to process their grief
and heal.
